Another aspect is to consider whether the waste materials are difficult to degrade and cause environmental pollution. We should select materials that are easy to degrade and pollution-free to fundamentally realize the requirements of environmental protection printing.

Water based white varnish takes water as the basic volume, styrene or acrylic as the solute and weakly alkaline solvent as the surfactant. Waterborne white varnish, also known as water-based coating glazing, is an environmentally friendly glazing method recognized at home and abroad. Water based ink and water-based varnish are also the only non-toxic ink (including varnish) materials approved by the American food and Drug Association (FDA) in the world. They are especially suitable for the processing of food, drugs, beverages, tobacco and alcohol and packaging and printing materials with strict sanitary conditions.

As a new green printing material, water-based white varnish has self-evident environmental protection and safety. However, as a new product, it does not have an advantage in the competition with solvent based varnish for a long time. The state should strengthen legislation and law enforcement, strictly limit the VOC content in the gas discharged from the printing workshop, and strengthen the safety testing of packaging and printing materials, so as to limit the use of solvent varnish products as far as possible and protect the environment and the health of operators. In terms of the current technical level of water-based varnish, it is not a problem to replace solvent based varnish. However, due to the long production history of solvent based varnish, mature technology and low price, and the printing enterprises have also adapted to this process. In addition, the national environmental protection legislation is relatively backward, it will still exist in the market for some time.
