How to choose our ink?

Like other printing inks, flexographic water-based inks are also composed of pigments, binders and ink additives. When selecting pigments for flexographic water-based inks, attention should be paid to the alkali resistance, relative density and pigment matching of pigments. Sometimes the pigment is first made into pigment particle aqueous dispersion, that is, pigment paste, and then mixed and dispersed with binder and additives to make flexographic water-based ink.

1. Alkali resistance of pigment

Pigment is a material that gives ink color characteristics and meets the color requirements of printing. Because most of the binder resins of flexographic water-based ink are alkali soluble, the viscosity and pH value of ink need to be accurately controlled, and the pH value is generally controlled between 8.0 and 9.5. When the pH value is higher than 9.5, the alkalinity is too strong, the viscosity of the ink will be reduced, the drying speed will be slow, and the water resistance will be poor; When the pH value is lower than 8.0, the alkalinity is too weak, the viscosity of the ink will increase, and the ink is easy to dry, resulting in defects such as dirty version, paste version and foaming. Therefore, pigments with good alkali resistance must be used when selecting pigments.

2. Relative density of pigment

When the relative densities of the pigments used for water-based inks are very different from each other, the pigments with low relative density are easy to float on the. For example, dark green water-based inks are often mixed with pigments such as carbon black, phthalocyanine blue, lead and chrome yellow, which is easy to produce floating color, flower, precipitation and other phenomena; When the relative density of pigment is too high, it is easy to precipitate and agglomerate, which destroys the stability of water-based ink, such as iron red and chrome yellow.
